Upside Down Living with Jesus: Emptied to Be Filled

Impact Christian Church https://www.impactfranklin.com
  • 2 kings 4:1-7 Introduced to Elisha, a widow an olive flask and a lot of empty jars.
  • Lesson we learn from this Story : God loves to fill up empty things and people
  • Role of the Jar: to be filled up
  • Question : What’s the only thing that must be true of the jar in order for it to be filled? It must be empty

Luke 14: 15-23

  • THE GREAT BANQUET: Metaphor for a place Jesus meets the deepest needs of His people.
  • Vs. 16 “A man prepared a great feast and sent out many invitations. When the banquet was ready, he sent his servant to tell the guests, ‘Come, the banquet is ready.”
  • Vs. 18 “ but they all began to make excuses”

HERE’S WHY I CAN’T COME TO YOUR BANQUET:

  • Excuse #1 “One said, ‘I have just bought a field and must inspect it” excuse me
  • Excuse #2 vs. 19 “’ Another said, ‘I have just bought five pairs of oxen, and I want to try them out. please excuse me. ‘So I can’t come.’”
  • Excuse #3  vs. 20 Still another said  “ I just got married “ So I can’t come.

vs 21  “The servant returned and told his master what they had said. His master was furious and said, ‘Go quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and invite the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame.’ After the servant had done this, he reported, ‘There is still room for more.’ So his master said, ‘Go out into the country lanes and behind the hedges and urge anyone you find to come, so that the house will be full. For none of those I first invited will get even the smallest taste of my banquet.’”

Luke 14: vs 21

Ephesians 5:18 “Do not get drunk on wine which leads to debauchery, instead  be filled with the spirit,”

This Week:

  • So before we pray that God will fill us, I believe we ought to pray that He would empty us.
  •  When the heart is turned upside-down and everything that is contrary to God is turned out, then the Spirit will come.
